This is a classic example of the style of educational buildings that were built throughout Tasmania in Art Deco and Post War period. With its wonderful symmetry and functional style Mitchell House highlight is the wonderful vertical banding at it's entrance, and how about the wonderful curved staircase entry. A shame that half of the stairs has been compromised by a new concrete entry.

Ohh that is a fine building, and one that has been looked after over the decades. But I am interested in the observation that educational buildings throughout Tasmania were built in the Deco style.
ReplyDeleteCheck out some of my past posts to see other deco period educational buildings, needless to say plenty more from the period to come, including a very large example!
