    I remember the smallish cream brick veneer homes surrounded by large gardens very very well from my own childhood. Once soldiers were demobilised and able to marry after Dec 1945, they could borrow housing money at very modest interest rates. As far as I can remember, most of these homes for ex-servicemen only had two bedrooms and had to be expanded in the 1960s when families had more money.
