Mid 20th Century Design Adaptive Reuse - Launceston

Always love to see mid 20th Century design that is so often overlooked and undervalued appreciated and adaptively reused. This example in Launceston still operates businesses on the lower floors, but the upper floors have been opened up and made into inner city apartment living. This is a wonderful example of what needs to happen more to stop urban sprawl and to keep cities vibrant places.

  1. Several years ago, my wife & I looked at renting the upper floor (as a flat) for $150 per week. It was enormous, we could have ridden bikes from the bedroom to the kitchen without irony.

I'm guessing they have refurbished it a little since then, perhaps put in some walls to divide up the space.

  2. wow, to think you could have had all that space for just $150 per week back when you looked! Would make such wonderful space for inner city living - close to everything, never have to drive etc.
