Tasmanian suburbia - Mowbray commercial buildings

I love the suburbs, this photograph I took is in the main shopping strip in the suburb of Mowbray, Launceston.  Most of the buildings are one level high, with many having been built in the the mid 20th century, originally when these buildings were designed they were used as a grocery shop and butcher.

  1. Do people shop there now? I remember in the 50s and 60s, people only went into town for really big events. The rest of the time they shopped in the local strips that provided almost everything that was needed. None of this mall nonsense.

  2. If you're ever back in Mowbray and want to photograph a really interesting house, drop by 27 Wood Street. Its a really unique red brick post war house that I had the privilege of living in whilst studying at uni.
