Former Cinema - Devonport



I imagine this by the look of it's styling was the former cinema in the north west township of Devonport. It's always a joy to walk the streets of small towns and come across modernist buildings such as this one. The colour scheme that it's been painted ensures that it really does stand out!

    I shot this building in 2006 and can confirm it was a cinema. Cinema One but is looks like it was already closed by the time I got to it.

  2. Sad to see so many Art Deco and Modernist Cinemas close down over the years. At least this building is being adaptively reused. Often it's sad passing through many towns in Tasmania and throughout Australia witnessing empty Art Deco cinema's, and just down the road there are massive new box developments with new cinemas. If viewers are interested in cinema's, the former Queenstown Cinema has been wonderfully restored by it's owner, who is an avid Art Deco fan. See my post on the Queenstown Cinema here:
