Like a bunker: Sub Station - Launceston

There are many sub stations dotted around the streets of Launceston, standing like bunkers, this being one such example.  The patterned brick was is interesting, as is the original "LMC" typeface (Launceston Municipal Council)  There are a number of Post War designed sub-stations that I've been passionately documenting which will appear in future posts.

Meanwhile check out these wonderful examples of sub-stations from around Tasmania I've documented previously here:

  1. Hi Thomas, what are substations actually for?

  2. From what I understand they are used to "lower" the power output from the main power station and then distribute that to the surrounding homes and businesses.
